She received her Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Missouri-St. Louis and her law degree from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Commissioner McKee served as an assistant prosecuting attorney from 1977 to 1994. She served as a trial attorney, warrant officer, and head of a sexual abuse unit.
