Virtual Town Hall for Municipal Courts Set for April 14, 2021
Safety Measures, Reopening Requirements to be Discussed

CLAYTON, MO – April 1, 2021 – The 21st Judicial Circuit Municipal Court Committee will hold a virtual Town Hall meeting for municipal court officials, employees and other interested parties on April 14, 2021 at 4 p.m. to discuss plans for resuming court functions in Operating Phase III.

The virtual meeting will focus on the safety and operational requirements for municipal courts set by the Supreme Court of Missouri, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the St. Louis County Department of Public Health and Administrative Orders issued by Presiding Judge Michael D. Burton. Municipal courts are not allowed to open for in-person court sessions until the Presiding Judge issues an Order that moves St. Louis County Circuit Court to Phase 3, regardless of whether the municipality has all health and safety procedures in place. The 21st Circuit is now in Operating Phase II.

“We want the public to know that as we move forward, safety measures have been put into place for welcoming residents back into the municipal courts,” said Circuit Judge Renee Hardin-Tammons.
The Missouri Supreme Court ordered the municipal courts to remain accessible to the public throughout the COVID-19 public health emergency. Even though day and night court proceedings had been cancelled to prevent the spread of the virus, municipal courts were required to continue to perform certain essential functions, utilizing social media, websites, email, teleconferencing and videoconferencing.
These essential functions include issuing and recalling warrants; setting and reducing bonds; processing court costs, fines and fees, and providing information about pending cases, including new court dates.
